and Violetta

Set in Tbilisi in the 1990s, the romance unfolds amid upheaval, separation and unexpected journeys. The production that launched the Gabriadze Theatre was later reimagined and completed by Leo Gabriadze, giving this much-loved work a new life on stage.

The history of Gabriadze Marionette theatre began in 1981 with the play “Alfred and Violetta,” where the eternal love story, well-known thanks to the novel by Alexandre Dumas fils “La Dame aux Camélias” and the opera by Giuseppe Verdi “La Traviata”, was given a completely new artistic life by Rezo Gabriadze. After a long interval, the play returned to the stage of Gabriadze Theatre, but in a new form. During the year before his death, Rezo Gabriadze almost completely rewrote and renewed the play. The initial plan was finalized by the artistic director of the theatre, Leo Gabriadze, who is the director of this new performance.

The premiere of the renewed “Alfred and Violetta” took place in 2022 in Italy, at the Goldoni Theater.
