Public Talk with Lev Dodin

Maly Drama Theatre – Theatre of Europe, St Petersburg

Date
30 October
Time
15:30
Venue
Baku Book Center
Duration
45-60 minutes

Lev Dodin is one of the defining figures of European theatre — a director, teacher and artistic leader whose work has shaped generations of actors and theatre-makers.

Over more than five decades, he has developed a distinctive theatrical language rooted in literature, ensemble and an exceptionally rigorous rehearsal process. His artistic journey is inseparable from the Maly Drama Theatre – Theatre of Europe, where a unique theatrical culture has evolved under his direction and gained international recognition.

Presented alongside BIAF’s festival performance of The Seagull, this public talk offers a rare encounter with the artist behind the production. Chekhov has remained a vital presence throughout Dodin’s creative life, and The Seagull opens a wider perspective on an artistic practice built over decades — a theatre of precision and depth, where literature becomes lived experience and the stage remains in constant dialogue with the present.
